Thursday and DIY

Good Morning Campers.

Hope everyone has had a good week so far. It sure has flown by. I worked Monday..very busy and frustrating..we have enough hands on deck but they are not trained enough to be more than be a burden really and it takes extra time to stop and show someone how to do something rather than just do it yourself but patience is the key here as we have all been there. As you may know (big grin) I am not the most patient person on the planet so I am doing most of the work and letting the younger and more patient MA sit and train the new girls. I was exhausted when I got home and after talking all day long I literally don't have any words left..hubby is starting to "get it" just leave me alone to veg after 12 hours of being "on".. Tuesday I went to the base and did some much needed grocery shopping and then met True Beauty at Home Depot so she could pick out her paint and ceiling fan. We are starting the overhaul in her room this weekend. Some may ask why I am decorating her room at her age but I don't think she's going anywhere anytime soon..she works full time and goes to the community college locally so I have no problem her living here..I actually love it ;-) Anyways we are decorating her room in such a way  that it will make a beautiful guest room when the day comes for her to fly the coop. Yesterday I worked again and it was a little easier than Monday... it was still a long day though but now I have the next four days off...;-)

Speaking of Rachel's room got me to thinking of all the improvements we have made to this house..since moving here in 1997 we have:

Totally replaced both bathrooms.

Totally replaced the kitchen including all cabinets, counters and appliances.

New roof.

New windows.

Painted all nine rooms in the house. (More than once)

Replaced the carpet through out.

Added a 20' by 20' glassed in Florida room (conservatory)

Put new liner in the swimming pool.

Re painted the pool deck.

New fence.

New doors in every room including front door and garage door.

Not too shabby huh? Does anyone watch "Moving up" on TLC? I love that show! It's where they let the old owners come back and see what the new owners have done to "their" house. I wonder what the previous owners would think of ours. Probably not that much as they upgraded to a house on the beach. <sigh>

Well that's what's happening in my neck of the woods..what's up in yours?

 Lyn

My five...

1. Four day weekends..how did I get to be this lucky?

2.. Ryan has a girlfriend..shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  ;-)

3...Great haircut .....needs hi lights now though...too dark...

4....Compliments.. one of the Docs said yesterday if we could just clone Lynda we would be alright....

5..... Indian food delivered by one of the Drug reps...Chicken Tikka marsala and poppadoms...ahhhhhhh..... ;-)

Good luck with the decorating although you sound pretty experienced anyway lol. It is a pain having unhelpful help isn't it when I was working we often had people start then panic and leave when they found out care of the elderly involved more than making tea and chatting to a few old dears lol.
take care

You gotta put your stamp on your home I reckon!  Sounds like you have stamped yours just as much as we have ours!!!  Hey, its cheaper than moving and you don't have to pack!!!  I love decorating rooms.

And Yay for drug rep lunches!!  A highlight for us Medical Administrators...which reminds me, I must chase up the next one.....

Have a great 4 days off.

I love redecorating! I look forward to doing many things to our new home. My parents overhauled their house like you did you yours.. they complained so much about how terrible it was to live in a house as it was being redone....lol. That must be the low spot, but I would say its worth it for the finished product. I love your lists of 5 that you are happy for..... I should do that... optimisim prevails!! Take care!

It's great what you've been able to do with your home :)  Cindy & I are slowly but surely working on our home, stamping it as ours.  Yard also :)
About work, I understand what you mean about sometimes just doing it yourself is faster than having to explain everything sometimes more than once.  And very nice for the Dr. to say what he did, if it were me it would make me very proud of myself!!

I like you attitude about loving your daughter being at home and decorating the room so it can be a guest room someday too.  Rachel is a lucky girl to be so loved.   It must be refreshing sitting at your home with all the remodeling that has been done.  :)

Wow, i often dream to this day of the house i lived in for 6 of my teens years..i was SO happy in that house....i want to go back and look at it so badly...i would love that show you watch and i wrote down the name to see if i can get that channel. Will you take pics and show us her new room when it is done? I love to see your pics. We have flood warnings and rain rain rain here. Melting the ice mountains. Pray my damn basement doesnt flood again.
We built a new bathroom in our home as soon as we bought it and it was the smartest investment ever. It is NOT fun living with two teens and one bathroom.....i hope work gets better for you....love you so,
lj

I had the chance to go into my grandparents home after someone else bought it. It kinda made me sad. Glad to see you have done so much to your home, I wish that we could. We are getting a new roof this spring so that will be GREAT!! I can't wait till that happens. Then we will also be painting the front of the house again and hopefully redo the floor on the back entry.

I am impatient when it comes to training also..but someone has to!

Oh don't, we've been here almost 16 years, we've done so much but there's a lot needs redoing now, some of it for the fourth time! Gives me a headache just thinking about it.

Lyn, congrats on the four day weekend!  I hope it's a wonderful relaxing time for you.  I enjoy that show too!  We've been in this house twenty years this month and though we've done a lot to it, some of it has never been redone yet and what we've done needs redone again lol.  I'd love to gut the kitchen but the energy and dollars are not available for that job so I am hoping to paint the cupboards to get a different look.
loving you
karyl

Blimey you have been busy in your house.  Hmmm, don't think we have done a lot here although I would like to.  Just got to peel Paul off the floor, eh!  There is movement here though, tiles are being shifted off the walls and we have 2 weeks to empty out the kitchen before the tile man cometh.  Hugs.  Terry x

I love that show too!!!  It's so fun to see the former owner's reactions!  It's funny, too, as I'm sitting hear reading about your home improvement about 5 roof tiles blew off our roof and crashed onto our patio causing a big boom noise.  Scared my poor dog and made me jump.  Can't wait to show my husband when he gets home, NOT.....  Hope you post pictures of your daughter's room when it's finished.  Sounds like it's going to be very nice!
Hugs,  Kathy

Hello!
I'm so sorry for not stopping by more. Things are crazy here at our place. I also started my new job this week right in the middle of moving AND all the things we had to do to the "new" house....LOL
Your so cute :). My Mom was the same way: she loved having me live at home with her and Dad. We were very close.
Enjoy your weekend :)

Gayla

I hope both my kids stay with us for a while after they get out of school.  I'd like to be there as a safety net while they're going on to continue their education and/or work.  I'm really enjoying reading your journal, and have you on my alerts now.

Hope the decorating is going well ;-)  I bet you are quite knackered after working such a long day.  I wonder how much you have spent altogether on home improvements??!!
