Update

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update..Ryan did well at the cardiologist..he had an EKG and a sonogram of his heart.. his heart is working fine..he does have a mild case of Mitral valve Prolapse (see below) but the DR. doesn't think it is anything to be concerned with at this point..said Ryan is healthy as a horse and sees no reason why he couldn't be cleared to go in the Military which at the moment he is planning on when he graduates next year..that's a whole other issue I will save for later...;-)

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common heart disorder. It occurs when the valve between your heart's left upper chamber (left atrium) and the left lower chamber (left ventricle) doesn't close properly. When the left ventricle contracts, the valve's leaflets bulge (prolapse) upward or back into the atrium. Mitral valve prolapse sometimes leads to blood leaking backward into the left atrium, a condition called mitral valve regurgitation.

Mitral valve prolapse affects slightly more than 2 percent of adults in the United States. Men and women appear to develop MVP in similar numbers.

In most people, mitral valve prolapse is harmless and doesn't require treatment or changes in lifestyle. It also doesn't shorten your life expectancy. In some people with mitral valve prolapse, however, the progression of the disease requires treatment.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes..you guys are the best..

L xx

I'm so thankful that it is something you can live with and doesn't interfer with his plans either.  I know that the military gives you a work out for sure.  We'll be praying there is not any other complication.  'On Ya' - ma

Great news.  The power of prayer is amazing, isn't it?
Are you as nervous as we were when our son (who had a free ride to Temple!) came to us after graduation and said "I want to be a Marine and I want you to support my choice." ... I swear the room was spinning and my knees went weak!

I am glad that he is going to be ok. I myself have Mitral Valve Prolapse and have know about it for 20 years or more. Sugar is the worse thing I can eat because it seems to make the heart skip beats. I do take 25 mg's of tenormin a day to help regulate the beat otherwise I am ok with it. Helen

I just knew that everything wold be o.k. Oh I so feel your pain. Nikki and I got into about her going into the Navy with the marine option. Did I spell that right? It looks wrong. Anyway, I can't stop Nikki from going and I can't say no because she will just wait until she 18 and do it anyway. How much are we suppose to give? First we give our husbands up to the military and now our children? It is a tuff one, but I am here for you.

FWIW, my husband's grandfather had a mitral valve prolapse which did not require medical intervention until he was  83.  He was/is a very active individual, skiing downhill when he was younger(now cross-county) and almost making the Olympic team "back in the day."  He had a valve replacement at 83 and we recently celebrated his 96th birthday.  :)  Glad to hear the appointment went well.  Estela

Wonderful news....fabulous! My Mandy has MVP, she was diagnosed when she was very small, at age 8! She is 25 now, and the only problem she has had over the years that has related to it are some anxiety issues and of course when she goes to the Dentist she is given antibiodics. Health wise she is 100%.
I'm so happy it turned out this way for you....Thank you God, for Ryan. :)

Pooh Hugs,
Linda
