Good Morning Campers!
My heart and prayers got out to all those associated with the Minneapolis Bridge tragedy ..the families that lost loved ones..the police and divers and EMT's...just an absolute tragedy..and one that has wreaked havoc with my mind..as some of you may know I have a problem with the bridge that I have to drive over every time I go to work..

I have these thoughts of me driving over the edge..plunging into the river below..I have it planned how I will get out...how I will swim to the top...but then I also picture my funeral and everyone getting up and talking about me etc..macabre yes..but it is what it is...BUT until a couple of days ago I never considered the possibilty of the bridge collapsing... let me tell you I had the death grip on the steering wheel yesterday.. and for some reason I was holding my breath..not a good idea..it's a long bridge.... my heart was beating so fast..my hands were clammy and I was light headed.... I am going to have to find some way to beat this or another job because this is ridiculous....
<sigh>
Oh and as encouragement hubby tells me if I do go over the edge my windows won't go down to let me out because they are electric.... NICE....

it is a shame, and could of been avoided too, but a rare occurance im sure.ake care beckie xx
you may think of getting another car that has the windows you roll down yourself.....you may also want to talk to a professional about this phobia...it is a real one and they could help you cope. I go over the two biggest bridges in my city to take Chad to school and every single time i go over the 1st one i say outloud to Chad "woo, we didnt die today with a bridge collapse". He thinks i am crazy but the sidewalks are totally crumbled and gone from the edge of the bridge! Today in our paper the big headline says "ALL LOCAL BRIDGES ARE SAFE". Yeah sure.
Love,lj
(((((((((((HUGSTOYOU)))))))))))))oh my,I feel for you, everytime you have to go over that bridge.Just as the other comment says, maybe you should see someone to help you with your phoiba, they could give you somehting to make you feel better.I know its scary. My boyfriend hates going over the bay bridge,we always have our windows down.Maybe when you go over the bridge, just have your windows down going over it,that is what I was told.I will be praying fo you.Have a nice friday.

I can understand how you are feeling ,you have spoken about this bridge before ,and what has happened wont have helped you ,and you wont be listening to the rational side of yourself just now .. deep breaths ....love Jan xx
So sorry you are so upset but I can see why it must be awful having to do something most days you hate, hope you can find a solution to you problem. I used to hate going under The River Tyne at Newcastle as I suffer with claustrophobia but we go the other way now but from reading your journal you can't do this. Love Joan.
If someday the good Lord chooses to have that be the way I should go, so be it...we all have our time. I don't worry about it, but do have some problems with one of the bridges I travel over when visiting DS#3...It always seems to be drawing me to the edge. I try not to look that way and keep my eyes straight ahead. 'On Ya' - ma
Yikes! Thanks hubby...keep breathing honey. You're right...it' important!
Topless funeral?
Seriously, your bridge will NOT collapse. Play loud music and sing at the top of your lungs when you have to drive over it. I hate bridges, too. --Cin

Awwwwww Lyn, Hugs to you , Lisa
I live about 20 miles form the MPLS bridge that collapsed - my family and I drove over the bridge the day before the collapse - and I cannot explain the sick feeling we had as we watched the first pictures of this tragedy on t.v. - we are counting our blessings and trying to not think of the "what if's"! I've been trying to figure out what exactly I'll write in my journal about this but the words are hard to find. I am not sure how I'll do driving over any bridge now - and then, I think of the people who survived the collapse - especially the children - their lives will never be the same.
OH GOD! Thanks for the tip about the electric windows! Now I know that while I'm plunging I need to be opening the windows instead of screaming my head off.
This was a very sad incident with hopes of never happening again! I hope these thoughts clear from your mind so that your daily drive will be peaceful! Think positive and enjoy your day - Today's Mexican food and Margarita's Yahoo! My thoughts and prayer are with you and those who so tragically lost! Take care,
Katie
Yes that was a terrible tragedy my heart goes out to all those who lost thier lives and families.I bet that will be a nerve wracking experience for you now everytime you drive over the bridge on your way to work.Id be tempted to find another route if it were possible or as you say another Job.I will pray for you and the others that have to cross that bridge.Stay safe and have a good weekend
Sending you good vibes Lyn.......
Michele
My windows are electric also! Scary thought isn't it??
Missie
Actually the windows worked on Mythbusters until the pressure gets too much... so just put the window down fast! LOL So hubby is wrong...
I know... it is just awful... my hubby goes over the GW into NYC at least 4-5 times a week... ugh.

That bridge looks familiar to me...I think we crossed it on our way to Disney, where is it located? If this is the one I'm thinking about, I was a nervous wreck until we made it across and that was even before this latest tragedy. I understand your anxiety! I have electric windows too...damn I didn't even think of that!
June
That's what hubby's are for.......... to offer encouragement!
Gaz ;-) xxxx
Slap him for me!!!! I would be nervous about going over that bridge as well. I don't like bridges or water...

Hmmmm......maybe you should roll your window down when you go over the bridge....LOL I know it is not funny because most people think it isnt gonna happen, and odds are it wont but then it does. I am not sure of the solution....is there a way around the bridge??
Hugs

I'm so sorry sweety! To have a fear that paralyzes you is not only scary, (duh, its a fear) but stressful!!! And to have to encounter it day after day... well, I'm so sorry.
I live right by Minneapolis and drive on 35W almost anytime I go anywhere... so this has been on the local news 24/7 and we are all checking to make sure family members and friends are ok. Such a horrible tragedy and loss. Thank you for your warm thoughts and well wishes... I'm sure all those affected are appreciating the prayers too! :)
I'll pray for you and for the courage I know you already have.
Love and God bless-
Amanda
I also have issues, so don't worry about it! LOL Hubby is ever so helpful.

Hello! you sound like a very interesting person, do you have aim?
You'd think it would get easier every time you cross the bridge wouldn't you? Phobias are strange things.
Be well.

I saw a show once that showed how to get out if your car was heading under water.......there is a certain point where the water can be where you still can open the door.
I don't know why I am telling you this.
That bridge would freak me out too.....
God bless those families
hugs,
Ellen
My heart goes out to all who lost someone on the bridge. . .I watched the news thinking omg that is unbelievable. . .no wonder you are panicky going over the bridge, its HUGE!Maybe you could have hypnosis to help you?LOL at hubby easing your fears .

I hate bridges too. I understand your anxiety. Sending you hugs and prayers!
Gretchen

That was such a tragedy.
I had to travel over two separate Ohio River bridges today, but I didn't even give it a thought.
Lori
I watch Fox News over here on Sky and saw it. E saw it first and came to get me upstairs. I used to drive to work over a bridge that as I was stuck in traffic, could look down and see the water where the concrete had broken and fallen off! It was a much older bridge than the one that fell into the Mississippi R.! I am appauled by this tragedy. I AM grateful that the school kids got out safely though!
Love,
Susie

Hello! New here in J-land, have only visited a few others' journals, but love reading yours! You keep pretty upbeat, and laugh alot -- I can "hear" it in your "voice"! Thanks for that...
As far as your anxiety and 'that bridge' -- turn up the radio and siiiiinnnnng Sista, and put the pedal to the metal...
Be back often...
Me Meadow
I'm not a big fan of bridges. I sweat when I have to take the I-10 through Louisiana (swamp land all the way). I have an emergency hammer that will break the windows in my car should I have to make a "water landing". I keep it in my glove compartment... the hammer also has a blade for cutting the shoulder strap, should I not be able to unbuckle my seatbelt. :) Estela
bridges scared me before the tragedy happened, now i am just terrified of them. there's a bridge in virginia going over the chesapeake bay, it is an under water bridge for the biggest part of it. Yes you are under the water (50) feet under water in this tunnel bridge. I went through it 1 time years ago and now I would never do it again. Did you smack the hubby when he told you the windows won't go down? I would of smacked mine, lol. I would roll windows down until I got on other side of bridge. ((((((((hugs))))))
Love,
Cindy
hello! I have new bridge phobias now, too. I live in MN but was not near the bridge at the time it collapsed, although we've driven on it often. Now every time I go over a bridge, I am thinking about plunging into the water. I imagine rolling down my window real fast so I can escape, doubt it would be that easy. WEll, just wanted to stop & say hi, I've been reading your journal a lot lately but have not left a comment!! you seem like a funny & cool lady!
hugs

so sad and scary. love V
PS> that was some weather Florida had while we were there lots of rain :( we put on our ponchos and jumped in puddles and enjoyed it anyway lol
Eekk. I was feeling anxiety the other day when I was in San Francisco. You always worry about earthquakes over here, let alone bridges falling down. I drive a lot myself, and I work out of town so I can understand your anxiety. Next time you driving on the bridge, if it makes you feel safer, open your window, and say a little prayer. It will keep you mind off your anxiety. Or, put on the radio and sing along. Take care - Julie
It's very tragic. I'm so sorry tht you had a panic attack... I've had a couple of those. I hope you find a way to get through it. lisa
http://journals.aol.com/lisita15/lisita15/
Hope the anxiety has passed somewhat. I'm sure you will find a way to work through this, I'd hate to think of you finding another job just because of it. Blessings to you!
Lisa
Drive with the windows down!! I have a similar problem with motorway flyovers. Every time I have to drive over them it's a white-knuckle job. I picture going over and involving hundreds of other cars below. Stupid - I hope.
Angie, xx
Good Grief leave it to a man to say the wrong thing! I'm in agreement with a few others. Drive with the windows down while your on the bridge. I can't imagine the fear you must be feeling after hearing about the other bridge. Could you car pool with someone else perhaps? Wishing you love and peace! (Hugs) Indigo
OMGosh... I know what you mean about the bridge. I don't swim so it would really scare me. I hope nothing like that happens again. All those poor families.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Take care, Chrissie
I remember you saying about being nervous about your bridge before, it must feel really dreadful for you now especially to drive over it since hearing about the bridge in Minneapolis. I feel so sad for those affected by this tragedy. Please try to be brave and I am sure your bridge is perfectly safe and will be tested too very quickly in the light of this awful event. Hugs, Terry x
Not a very fun thought plunging into a river when a bridge fails. When we have had major earthquakes in the past out here bridges and overpasses have failed. In San Francisco in 1989 a two tiered freeway collapsed on top of people on the lower level and crushed them. One guy survived almost two weeks in his crushed car and was finally rescued only to end up dying in the hospital a short time later. Anyway, hope you have a good Sunday.
Phil
My ex always got nervous when we drove over a bridge.
Try some deep breathing to keep you calm and say a prayer.
Hugs :)
Penny
Yes my heart goes out to those who were on that bridge and their families and loved ones!!!!!!! I will pray for you about that bridge crossing. I get a little bit sick on bridges with nervousness too. Please carry a sledgehammer in your car so you can break the windows. Hugs,
Lisa
Get over it! Not all bridges will self destruct.
Awwwwwww Lyn.......... my heart goes out to you. I suffer from phobia's and its not a nice thing to have to go through.
Keep your chin up
hugs Jayne
