Behind closed doors...

107 Pot Plants Removed From OP Home

Pot House Operation Busted

POSTED: Wednesday, March 4, 2009

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Clay County deputies recently arrested two people in a large pothouse raid, which authorities called one of the most sophisticated drug operations they've seen in years.
A heap of junk in the yard of a home on Rainey Avenue in Orange Park was all that was left of the large pot growing operation that deputies said was inside.
"I woke up and came out here and the cops were taking a whole bunch of marijuana plants out of the garage. I couldn’t tell you how many there were. They were ranging from two foot to six foot. All that stuff is all the growing system," said neighbor Shaw Keller.
Neighbors sat by and watched as the man and woman who lived in the home on Rainey Avenue home were taken out in handcuffs, accused of what running what investigators said was a fairly complex growing operation.
"Certainly the biggest one we've had this year. We've had bigger ones before … this was 107. The sophistication of this grow was well done," said Clay County Sheriff's Office Lt. Barry Abramowitz.
Investigators said operation was well ventilated and well lit with expensive equipment -- ventilation tubes along with pots to hold the 107 marijuana plants -- that's now just junk left for trash haulers to pick up in the front yard.
Abramowitz said based on the size of the plants suggest the growing operation has likely been set up for several months.
However, neighbors said traffic has been minimal at the home and they had no idea what was going on inside the garage.
Investigators said police "intelligence" led them to the house. The man and woman arrested are expected to felony charges depending on the weight of the confiscated plants.

That is terrible. I often wished I knew my neighbors better. The few that I do know are nice. The others all seem to keep to themselves and rarely even see them. We never know what goes on in others lives. Hope your Thursday is a great one!

That's awful! Now I'm wondering what is going on around MY neighborhood. This kind of thing wouldn't surprise me a bit in some of our areas.

Wow is right. Kinda scary when the news is on your street. I remember in our old neighborhood one day I came home and the neighborhood had been blocked off the next streets over. There were helicopters swarming above and police cars everywhere. A man had baracaded himself in his house but was threatening to do bizarre things. They finally got him before anything happened to himself or others.

Yikes! I hope they don't discover the whore house I have going in my basement. LOL

hmm, makes me wonder if the UK is getting worse than the USA, we have 2 drug dealers in this street, I witness it on a weekly basis, they are all doing it, it's unusual if you find anyone who doesn't smoke it, let alone deal in it.
And yes, I am unusual, I'm pleased to say :)

LOL. I guess you don't know your neighbors. Hopefully you didn't buy any brownies when the came around selling door to door.

You are absolutely right. We never know what's going on next door.
Neighbors aren't like they used to be. We used to know all of our neighbors. Now, no one takes the time to even say hello, much less get to know each other.
It's a shame.

Our neighbourhood went to "pot" also just before Christmas when a house around the corner was raided and many plants were taken away. The house was empty but the police caught those responsible. You just never ever know.

Wow.. And you never noticed an odor on your street? Well, I guess people who grow it don't necesarily smoke it, right? Yep--you never know what goes on behind closed doors-but it could be worse. It could have been a "call girl" house or something nasty like that. :) Julie

YaY to the police officers! Had to say that because they don't get enough appreciation.

You just never know who your neighbors are or more importantly what they are doing behind those closed doors.

A fleeing suspect was shot and killed by the police on my mother's doorstep.. LITERALLY! The video ran on the internet for days. It was very surreal to see the house I grew up in on TV. (My mother was fine through the whole thing.)

You are so right! No one knows. I am sure it was scary finding out about this. Glad that the operation was busted!

No, we never know who really lives in our neighborhood. I bet every neighborhood in the US has at least one pot house!!

Enjoy your weekend.

WOW!

I'm guessing there was no traffic as it wasn't ready to sell yet? The traffic afterwards would have been so noticeable.

It's stunning when it's right on your street. I don't know my neighbors either but I've heard rumors about drug deals going down in our driveways by people in cars who aren't from here. I'm have a shotgun and I know how to use it. Not at my house they won't I say.

This "war on drugs" is ridiculous. We should legalize it and tax it....the economy would rebound instantly!

Helen, thank you for your comment on my journal.
How did you get to read my journal? I did not have you on my list of blogs but I do now,
I am still on a high today and intend to stay that way.
I did not use the word funk since i thought that was not used my amny any more. But I was in a funk.
The solution for me was to come up with a plan and put it into effect. I arrived at the plan by talking to friends, family, clergy, the Internet and just about anyone else I met. They all helped and then the solution finally came to me.
Of course the first robin and spring forward helped too. The snow hasn't melted yet but I am sure it will be gone by Monday.
Thanks again and I hope you and ken have a great weekend. Bill

Sounds crazy but I'm rarely surprised by stuff like this! We have had so much go on in our little neighborhood and we live (like you) in a nice neighborhood!
On of our neighbors shot and killed his step-dad and they lived within sight of our house. I only knew about it from reading the paper!

That's crazy!! We had something similar three doors down from our old house and we soon moved afterwards! :)
