Update.
Plumber # 2 just left. Replaced a leaky valve in the toilet. Gave me pipe build up preventive. We did an initial shock treatment to the drains and then you do a monthly maintenance. Total cost $200. Said I already have had my mainline replaced with PVC pipe. Other guys are notorious for quoting for re-pipes. I will be reporting them to BBB.

This is why you always get a 2nd opinion. Plumber also said the noise I heard could have been air in the pipes. They are doing construction around here.I also have a main drain outlet in my driveway..belongs to the city so could have been in their line.
$200 versus $4500... WOW

I was gonna say I know a GREAT plumber. He's my nephew. Unfortunately, Florida is a little far to go from Maryland. Here's the part that cracks me up. His last name is Plummer!

Way to go! I had to get my car smogged one time and the place I went to said it would cost $400 to fix something so it would pass. So I took it to another place and all they had to do was clip the end of a wire and re-attach it. I went back to the other place and told them and they got defensive about it. The kicker . . . the first place was voted the best place to get your car smogged in the local paper several months later. LOL Have a good weekend.

Anytime we need to hire someone to do something to the house, my husband gets several opinions. Me, I would say just say come do it. My huband has saved us lots of money by getting these different opinions. Oh well. Glad everything worked out for you.
