Tuesdays with Lyn

How about them Jags???As in Jacksonville Jaguars..as in beat the Pittsburgh Steelers last night on Monday night football here in Jacksonville...Steelers are the defending superbowl champs so this was a huge win for us!!!  GO JAGS!!!!! It was nationally televised and a really big deal.. I swear the whole town was Teal yesterday....for our British friends American football is to Americans what soccer is to you...only as you can imagine even more hyped... you know the yanks..everything is bigger and better....  ;-)

Back to my regular colour....

So I am feeling better...that is a good thing. I am feeling great..funny how when you have been poorly for a couple of days when you finally feel better you have a whole new lease on life.. I feel like I could take on the world today....which is good because as usual I have my trusty to do list...;-)

A couple of answers to some comments....

If I could change my name ( I don't like Lynda as I stated in one of those surveys) I would change it to Stacia... I think that name is just sultry and rolls off your tongue....try it...;-)

Hubby's trip to Iraq is short because it is just to check on some members of his unit who are currently out there...he travels around checking up on them...Iraq is just one of several places he has been... I don't get to know exactly what he does and quite frankly don't want to....I mentioned Iraq in particular because of the obvious danger there...

A Florida room is just a term for a glass sun room on the back of your house..like an English Conservatory.. These rooms are obviously  popular in Florida because we have the weather... we  like to look out at the sunshine etc without having to be faced with the mosquitoes and the 100+ temperatures.... a lot of people have hot tubs in theirs... we use ours all the time... it is just an extension of the house.. we have a flat screen TV out here..the computer is out here..it is air conditioned.. we have  a mini fridge and table and chairs...it is where everyone hangs out.. I have posted pics before but will take some more....

Plonk is booze..as in a good bottle of plonk..usually referring to wine...

A friend of mine text me yesterday to ask the meaning of a few words...Bank Holiday = Federal Holiday  Clan = Family Name and Stone = 14lb in weight.  he then said we may both speak English but we don't speak the same language....LOL

Well that's all from Lyns corner of the world..what's happening in yours??

L

My five..

1. THE JAGS WON 9-0!!!!!!!!

2..Hot tea...

3... It's raining...I don't need to water...

4....My neighbour bought me flowers...just cuz...

5.....Almost caught up on alerts...phew!!

happy that it was a good game. Happy that hubby's trips to Iraq are short. Florida rooms are so nice. Sounds like you have a nice one. Have a great day.

My mil will be disappointed since her team is the Steelers.  And that on top of the Titan's embarrassing loss on Sunday.  Oh me.
I love learning the meanings of different phrases in other parts of the world.
What's going on here?  We are getting ready for a trip across country to see my parents.  Myself and my girls (ages 2 and 5) are flying to Oregon.  It's chaos.

I love the name Lynda I must because that is my daughters name but she insists on beling called Lyn ~ so maybe she isn't too keen on it either lol ~ glad Hubby is only going out to Iraq to check out some members of his unit ~ laughed at the text from your friend and how true that is about both speaking English but don't speak the same language lol ~ Ally

We too sat stunned lastnight watching that game.  Wow Jags and man, oh man, we are also Pittsburgh fans so we were stunned and dismayed.  I know Ben had surgery so he wasn't himself but they should have let the back up play QB I think.  Hugs,

The language differences can be very funny. My Amercan relatives came to visit us in England when my daughter was two years old. She was a giggling, wriggling bundle of mischief. My great uncle ran after her say 'Come here, I want to pat you on the fanny' That raised some eyebrows! LOL.

Glad you are feeling better Lyn, i'ts a shame you were ill over the weekend and not during work time!
The best Americansim I have ever heard was once when I was working in New York and went into a show room to see some clients and was asked by the host if I would like an attitude adjustment, when I looked stunned and asked what it was, she said a drink (booze) or maybe some recreational drugs!!!!!!!!! She had a point, they ALL adjust your attitude. I stuck with the wine, only cos the glasses looked so big.......Gaz xx
(write me back soon ok?)

Hi Lyn,  I`m afraid I know almost nothing about American football apart from the fact they have cheerleaders!  We certainly do speak different languages but somehow we manage to understand each other...eventually! :o)

isn't 'plonk' more of a British term? i think so.
Adams parents have a screen in porch and then an open deck. but screened in areas are great because you dont have to worry about being eaten alive by the bugs!

I love the Jacksonville Jaguars, well, their colours anyway. last year i got my nephew a cute little jaguars sweatsuit. he's too big for it now and when i went looking in some of those football stores in the mall the price nearly made me faint. last time i got it for like $20 from walmart.

(smiles) hot tea...everyone in florida seemed to drink sweet tea. which i like and make at home, but there's nothing like a cup of tea and a bickie in the mornings! lol!

How did you find the transition of moving to the USA, what foods did you miss the most?
