Good Evening Campers!!!
So I haven't been writing much..my life does not seem to be own any more..I have been helping take care of father-in-law who as you know is under hospice care at home..his wife is difficult on the best of days..she likes to be in total control but worse than that in my opinion she does not pay enough attention to my FIL...he has fallen out of bed and laid on the floor for three hours before she heard him..(she sleeps in another room) I go round there and he is laid in dirty clothes..the house is filthy...BUT what I am about to tell you will shock you..they have Toy Yorkie..she is not but about 8lbs...well my FIL had an open wound on his big toe which his wife had left open to "air"..the dog jumped up on the bed and started licking the wound and proceeded to gnaw my FIL's toe completely off!! I absolutely am NOT kidding! What I cannot figure out is how long did that take and where was she while this was happening? luckily my FIL has no feeling in that foot anyway...but can you imagine? She also tried to hide this from me by stalling me from going round..finally something told me to go so I took my nephew (who was visiting from England) and my son and we went round the house to be greeted by her saying "I have something to tell you..we had a problem here last night"
ya think??
The dog gnawed off my FIL's toe to the joint..today he had a debridement and they amputated what was left...there are no words to describe how I feel...above is a picture of him in the ER last night with my nephew..please note the filthy t shirt he is wearing..and she was not there...she was at home with the dog.
Told you you couldn't make this shit up!

That is unbelievable for sure. I hope something is done where he has better care. That is so sad. So good that you checked on him. You are an angel rescuing him like that.
How awful for something like that to happen. Since your FIL's on hospice, maybe you need to have a chat with the hospice nurse when she comes and make her aware of what's going on. Check into with her about a hospice aid that can come in and bathe you FIL and change the sheets for him. And keep the dog away from him.
Good thing you checked on him! It's too bad things like that had to happen. Well in fact, those rarely happen and it has to happen to him. That means a lot of cleaning up to do, too. I hope he's fine.
That just plain sucks.
That seriously made me cry. People deserve to live... and die... with dignity. If she is unwilling or incapable of caring for him, she needs to get out of the way and let him be cared for in a safe, healthy setting. I'll be praying for you and your family as you negotiate and intervene on his behalf! *hugs*

Oh my goodness Lyn. That is disgusting. It absolutely breaks my heart. I hope that you can do something to make sure that it doesn't happen again. You are a real doll with a big heart. xxoo
Wow, there are just no words. This is really sad. That is no way for that man to live, sorry to hear that happened.
Sometimes truth is indeed stranger than fiction ,What a Woman !!!,and what a good job you went round ,will the police be involved ?bless him and you for going to see him regardless of what she said ...love Jan xx
Oh my goodness! That is so so sad! I can' believe it. Bless him. Good job he has you to go check on him. Have you asked her why the hell she would let something like that happen? Is he safe left there with her? Love Lainey xxxx
I'm speechless. Can't say more, sorry.
Hi Lyn...nope...sure couldn't make up a story like this...and it is unbelieveable...and seems that his care could be taken away from her for something better...sure glad you keep an eye on things..as much as possible anyway...God Bless...hugs...Ora in rainy but warm Kentucky....
You're right, you can't make that shit up..
What a horrific thing to happen. I would hope that a social worker or someone from the hospital would make sure that he isn't sent home to the same conditions.
His wife sounds like one crazy lady.
My prayers are with your FIL, that he will have better care than what she can give him.

I am sorry to hear this, that is plain awful. Good thing that you showed up and take care of things. Hope things get better. Nancy
UNBELIEVABLE. My heart aches for your FIL. Sounds like your MIL needs some kind of psychological care herself. You hang in there and keep doing what you're doing.
This is just the most disgusting story I have heard...on so very many levels. I can't believe THIS is what you are dealing with...
My thoughts and prayers are with you Lyn...as well as many, many ((HUGS))

I am so sorry this is happening. Not everyone should do hospice care at home for sure. I hope that changes after this. I am sorry your going through this. Hugs.
I'm horrified. This situation is not best for him -- a regular hospice may be needed immediately. My thoughts are with you.
your poor FIL...your MIL should be reported the the adult version of child protective services!!! shame on her!!!!
Oh my GOD !! That is the most awful thing I have ever heard in my life, the poor poor man,the dog would have been gone let me tell you, although I cant imagine why she would have him there in the room with such a sick person. Why on earth say you will care for someone if you dont,to be a martyr? Its terrible,I never thought Id hear myself say this but,he would be better off in an actual hospice, words cannot describe what I am thinking.Oh your husband must be feeling awful too what a terrible situation.xxx

This link provides information as to what to do in these situations.
If the county(s) mentioned are not where you live there is a number at the end of the pages for help out side of the county(s) mentioned. Good luck.
I'm completely disgusted by that woman's complete disregard for her husband. It makes me incredibly sad that he has to suffer this indignity in the last days of his life. She should not be in charge of his care, because she clearly is not taking care of even his basic needs. I just can't believe that at the end of his life he has to live and be treated like this! I'm very sorry for him and those that love and care about him who have to know that his wife has such complete disregard for him and during her neglect had his toe eaten off by her dog. Thank god he has you as a daughter-in-law and that you are there to check in on him!
I don't think I'd be too happy being in the home where the dog had chewed up part of its owner, seriously :-\
OMG that is just dreadful! Who needs enemy's when you have a wife like that????
And as for the dog..... I would not blame the dog... but still!
That is just so sad and gross. I hope you can intervene and improve your FIL's situation. Good luck
Blessings to him and you and your husband who is so far away! ARGH! The poor man!
OMG.. What is wrong with this woman? I mean, people handle grief and depression differently, but WTH? I can understand why you are so upset! I am, and I don't even know your FIL - poor man---he looks very sweet. Hugs - Julie
Oh Lyn that is appalling !!! They should arrest her for letting things like this happen! My heart breaks for your FIL and all that truly love him. And yes I noticed the shirt :(. I feel so angry that something like this could actually happen *all of it.* I agree with Ma-you are an angel :). I pray things get better from here w/fil.
Big ((HUGZ)) to you lyn. I have so missed reading your journal. I'm glad I came back :).
Donna
Thanks for stopping by Lyn... my goodness, what is going on with MIL? I mean, the whole 'til death do you part' obligation included in the vows should compel her to take better care of her hubby.
What does she think is going to happen should it come time for her to be in need?
Glad you were of the mind to see about him. I really haven't the words.
I'm just now seeing this and oh my goodness. It's disgusting and horrible and this woman should be in jail. I'm praying for your FIL.
OMG!!! That is HORRIBLE!!! I hope the hospice welfare services will press charges of NEGLECT!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I'm SOOO Glad that he was taken from her. GRRRR!!!!
