FAY

Good Morning Campers!!

It's a soggy good morning this morning...Fay has come and gone but boy did she leave her mark....I have never seen such wind and rain.not even during the hurricanes 4 years ago....not to mention a tornado passed through here and I got to experience that too....I am lucky that I am only dealing with minor flooding...one wall of my garage sits under ground level and I guess the ground is so wet that the water is seeping in along the foundation..it is not that much..not even inches but just that small amount caused a significant mess....I had some boxes on the floor and the water seeped up in them...I have since moved them and Ryan blew away the water with the blower but the smell is awful..just a damp musty smell..I can only imagine what it's like for the people who are under 4-5 feet of water....we lost power on and off for about 12 hours..only for minutes at a time though..the longest being about an hour...and the pool liner caved in...just too much pressure from all the rain..it came away at the sides....it had a small area that was coming away anyway and the storm just finished it off...so I have a deep green pond instead of a pool at the  moment... :-(  Again though it is nothing compared to what some have endured ...the pool liner can be replaced....most of Fay's damage to the area came in the form of flooding from 4 days of continual rain...there was some damage from trees being uprooted and falling on power lines, cars etc... 3 people lost their lives by going into the surf....1 person was killed when a tree fell on their car...one of the old peoples homes downtown had to be evacuated because of flooding..the residents were taken out in boats...the tornado that went through here went along the St Johns river...I saw the warning on TV that it was in this area..and because of the rain I couldn't hear much so I went and stood on the front step and that's when I felt it..there was the "roaring" sound they warn you about and then this weird feeling of pressure..like the air was sucked out of the house..then a very intense wind and roar and pressure all at once as it passed by down the river....all I can say is I am glad I wasn't in it's direct path...they say this was a water spout and not even a "real" tornado and that if it had touched down over land it would have been ten times as bad....since Fay moved on we have still had lingering rain and storms which hasn't helped us dry out..it is really soggy here still...just makes it miserable to try and do anything....

I am just grateful to be here and writing about it all... I hope you all have a great week ...

I am so glad that it was not worse. As you say things can be replaced but people cannot.  I feel for those who have suffered severe damage and loss of a loved one.  We will never tame Mother Nature.

Dear Lynda

Your alert came through on my computer this morning. I am glad that you didn't have any major damage from Fay and that you are safe. Fay came through here in AL yesterday with heavy rains and wind with some tornado warnings but not close to me. There are already tornado warnings in AL this morning but not in our county. It will be another stormy day. I just pray that everyone will be safe. Helen

I'm grateful that you are around to write about it too!  Sounds very "exciting"!
We finally have some rain this morning, left overs from Fay.  Unlike you, I was a little happy about it!

I am glad that you did not have any more damage from the storm. Would you like me to come over to help you clean up?

Your hubby will soon be retired. It was not until Rusty retired that I really started missing him. I know that sounds strange, but you get "use" to them being gone. Once they retire they are home all the time. Oh Lyn your day to dance will soon be here and I will dance with you.

I've heard that this storm has been INCREDIBLE because it hasn't moved much...just stayed over the same basic area and rained and rained and rained!!  I am so glad you are OK and you don't have much damage.  I can't imagine getting 20+ inches of rain in DAYS!!!

So glad all is good in your neck of the woods...

((hugs))

We are in the clutches of Fay right now.  It's been raining for days, and today is the day for tornado warnings galore.  Haven't had one for my county yet, but it's coming....I just know it.
My Aunt lives in Port St. Lucie, and she got flooded out.  I know that musty water smell that you speak of...and yes, it is awful!
Hope things get better, and that  smell is gone soon!
Love,
Connie

I'm glad you only had a bit of flooding and that the damage was minor.  Glad that tornado passed you by!  I hope the rain has stopped for you guys for a while, and that while you're drying out it won't be too awfully hot and humid.

Glad you were'nt hit worse....it's so scary. With Mandy down there, I had the weather channel on 24/7, and hardly slept until I knew she was out of harms way. I feel so badly for those who are suffering the flood water....what a nightmare.

Hello

Here in Atlanta, Georgia we got a little bit of wind and rain from Hurricane Fay but it has come and gone as quickly as it came. Of course it is cooler in my neck of the woods which is nice. I wanted to leave you my link from my journal in case you no longer have it ------> http://journals.aol.com/southernmush/DearDiary/

I hope all is well with you today. I had an embarrassing moment at work today but hopefully I will get over it soon. Do take care and have a nice Friday tomorrow.

Sorry I'm late with reading your entry ~ I'm so happy you and yours are ok.  Sounds like you are going to have to drain your pool a little and refill to get the green stuff to go away :(  not to mention the treatment of "shock"... Blessings* Teresa

My Aunt and Uncle live in Jacksonville.  I think the St. Johns goes thru there.  I remember that name crossing over one of the bridges.  They evacuated themselves when Fay came thru - just in case.  They were without power for days even when they went back home. Are you worried with all these storms coming up out there beyond the carribean. I saw 5 potential stormmakers last night on TWC.  Be safe. I forget where you are.  But aren't you on the coast?
Take care and have a great holiday weekend!
