just an observation...

I am not so sure I like this Blog follower thingy...see it says I have 145 followers yet I rarely get more than 25 comments ..so does that mean 120 of you are not REALLY following me...

Just an observation....

I feel the same way. I have 120 followers. The highest comments I get are around 30 when do a special entry. I know I do have a few followers that do not have journals but what about the rest. Why add yourself as a follower if you have no intention of following. And if people are following, then why not leave a comment, it aint that hard.

I noticed the same thing. *M*

I think its the same for everybody. Love Joan

I really don't mind if people don't leave a comment. I do care if they read what is posted as I want to encourage people and brighten their days in someway. I do love it when someone leaves a comment and I consider those my friends. They care enough to leave a message. There is a difference between a follower and a friend for sure. I even follow a couple of blogs that I do not comment on. I like reading what they have to say and getting new ideas and even recipes, so I follow and don't comment. Sometimes what I read leaves me speechless and I just don't know what to say so I don't leave a message. Just a few of my thoughts on the subject....

You know, the dashboard is to blame. On AOL we got alerts that prompted people to read.. Also, considering that it's the busiest time of the year right now---that could be the culprit too! I have 30 followers and I'm lucky if I get 5 comments. :) Julie

it's the same with most of us.
but i have lots of lurkers, people who like to follow & read, but don't leave comments. that's ok with me i don't mind.
those that do comment, i feel close to, & try to visit & comment on their journals as i can.
some don't even have journals but like to visit & read, that's ok too.
guess i'm just an agreeable type person, lol. i want to share my tiny world with all...even if they don't comment.
i am listed on lots of Follow This Blog tags, but don't always leave a comment...i see their posts in my reader & read it there. sometimes i go over & leave a comment, other times i have nothing to say.
your on mine, but don't comment all the time, it's ok!
have a good wkend.
huggies...

LOL I hear that.... I have some who only comment for the tags... but I think with the reader folks are either reading there and not even coming to the blog or they have the subscription email and read there. I notice it's hard for me to keep up now and I'm not sure why....
love ya

Lyn be glad you don't hear from them all otherwise you would spend all of your days on the computer ~ Good observation though :o) ~ Ally x

I leave a comment on 75% of the entries I read. But I do not make it to every entry of every blog I follow. Just not enough time in a day. And I often come by several days after an entry was posted. Want to see just how many really come by your blog try sitemeter.com. ;o)

LOL Why follow if you're not going to comment is right???? Hmmmm

Kathy said...

I have found the same thing. But that's okay. I do enjoy reading the comments though.

Well I think that sometimes you can't always comment on everybody's that you follow or you would not have time in the day to do anything. I follow lots of people that i dont comment on - its not that I dont want to - its either that I dont get their alert or I have nothing to say or Im too late! I tend to comment on those I know well and those that comment on mine. Even then Im a bit hit and miss! There are so many its hard to keep up sometimes. Laine xxxx

I like to read...I like to follow...but don't always comment....too busy to comment every time I read.

OH i could write a book but i will not....blogger will never be J LAND and without those sometimes pesky AOL journal alerts, almost EVERYONE have less comments because there are gobs of people who just are casual observers and do not care enough to take the extra minute to FIND a blog and comment. So, if you like casual, you got it here, for sure.
I sure do love you and not casually either.

I've wondered the same thing...but I figure that there are some who just lurk. That's ok, too.

Hi Lyn, talking about myself for exmaple, I do not know how the alerts work so I do not know when people have posted. Sometimes I have little time to look around, other times I do not feel in the right mood to comment and I just read the posts. I think it's better not to say anything rather than say something silly. Hope you are fine in sunny Florida. We are freezing in cold Old England! Have a nice Sunday. Ciao. Antonella

Lyn, I feel the same way,I think I have more lurkers but I guess I am glad some people read me at all, Hugs Lisa

Yep. Same here. I don't always read every entry for every blog I follow... and I don't always comment when I do read. Sometimes I feel particularly moved to share my point of view and sometimes I don't have anything worthwhile to add. It has amazed me the number of people who came out of the woodwork when I resurfaced... people who said things like, "you'll never know how much your blog means to me"... and I'm thinking... "then tell me!" I'd write either way... even if I never got a single comment... but I do get a little thrill when someone leaves a kind word or three.

*hugs*

It just means that not everyone comments. I rarely comment just to comment as in just to show I've been by. I only comment when I have something to say. So I'm sure lots of people think I'm not reading them but I am. I haven't broken 10 comments yet on an entry so you're doing better than me.

Lyn, it I do the average - it seems about 25% of your readers leave comments. Unless they are asked to input - like the "One Minute Blogger". I am lucky if I get five comments, but then again I only have about 25 followers, LOL. I just chalk it up to the fact folk are busy, but it is nice to receive feedback. I try and comment on the ones I follow. But like the ones that follow mine - I get busy too. Don't worry, you're loved! :-)

Most likely they have nothing to say....A person has to post something profound, controversial and that will get a reaction. I am new to your blog and just wanted to say HI.

Same here but I don't mind as I use my journal or blog the same way I used to use my handwritten one. Just to keep track of events in my like. I can't imagine most of the stuff I write would be of importance to anyone but I read back and see what we ate for thanksgiving last year or for memories of trips or my MIL. There are so many wonderful people though that I like to keep in touch with, you being some of them, hugs.

Yes I have had the same thoughts too lol ...love Jan xx

Who seriously has the time to comment on every blog they follow? If they do and they follow more than a handful that must be all the do is read. I don't have THAT much downtime. Often there are entries I don't feel it's necessary to comment on, even when it was AOL I didn't leave comments on a good portion that I read, between the time and just not feeling it was necessary, etc.

I have over 50 people following me and average 5 comments and it's ok with me.

I can't comment in all the journals I follow everyday, but I do try to get around to catch up on everyone. Since I have my grandson again I don't get on the net much like before. I'd rather play with him. I get the same thing too. Honestly, I hate the process of the way this place tells you someone has written. I hate dashboard. Privates don't give notice. I put a list on the bottom, but I have to click around to look. It's just not Jland.
We'll be missing you too when hubby comes home we won't hear from you. You'll be to busy. Should be soon now.
Take care and Hugs, Chrissie

Hm interesting. I think ppl automatically click the "follow" link because they truly want to keep up, but it's impossible. Hey just think, over 100 people took the trouble to say they like you, does it really matter how many comments ya get?

Missie said...

I have the same amount of followers as you, and I only get maybe 15 comments daily. I think everyone keeps up as best they can.

You have to remember though, we don't write for the comments, we write for ourselves.

Have a good Sunday.

Obviously you've touched on something here. :) With all the journals that I read- I don't read every entry and I don't comment on every entry I read. Sometimes I find that silence is just simpler.

Tabitha.Montgomery said...

Lots of peeps will and not comment.
Others will follow but not always get out to read at the same time I guess. As long as you enjoy your writing..those who read it will keep enjoying your blog one way or another.

Nice to meet you :)

Marie Rayner said...

It's a wierd thing isn't it? I get the same thing.

E-Lo said...

Well, this brought people out of the woodwork so to speak.
I believe, if I read, and I follow, then I comment. It's that simple. I sometimes get annoyed too that not everyone that is following is commenting.

Cyberstalkers????? Nah, only joking! I dunno, I suppose lots of people have said this already but sometimes, I don't feel I have anything worthwhile to say when I read a post so I just pop in unannounced and leave with no footprints left! But rest assured - you would be missed if you stopped blogging!!! Hope your man gets home safe and sound...xxx

Well, I guess I'm one that you would class as not a true follower. I rarely come over to blogger because I just can't seem to find the time or energy sometimes. I always have to reset my password, thats how bad I am. And usually, I'm laying down reading, I like to read and look at pictures. Typing sometimes seems too hard! But look, you've lots of comments now xx

Sal said...

Most folks surely write for themselves, and not to get specific comments? I appreciate comments are nice, but I dont feel they are what having a blog is all about.

Leigh/BlueDragonfly said...

I'm one of the guilty non-commentors/every time. I enjoy so many journals, but real life steps in and I get so far behind.
I want to have something pertinent to say, or others have already said things much better than I could-know what I mean?

:) Leigh
